Pioneering Real Wireless Power Delivery™ at Ossia Inc.: FEKO in the Simulation Process

Ossia’s patented wireless power Cota® technology is delivered much like Wi-Fi, is inherently safe, and provides real wireless power through the air and over a distance, even while the device is in motion. Using FEKO® for simulations to demonstrate that the SAR limit for COTA technology use for wireless power charging is within the FCC mandated limit of 1.6 watts per kilogram.

Originating a safe Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV)

The challenge in the development of Arcimoto’s SRK Generation 8; an all-electric, multi-purpose/utility commuter vehicle, included creation of an optimized platform that offers 3-wheeled stability, a space frame enclosure for protection, and a rear swing arm that handles the load requirements and also follows the visual design of the vehicle. HyperMesh® provided an environment for rapid model generation allowing Arcimoto to answer queries by helping them perform the analysis in OptiStruct® in an easy, time efficient manner. Using RADIOSS® for the physics helped them achieve repeatable and accurate results, reduce simulation cycle times and allow for evaluating multiple design scenarios thus enabling better decisions.

Using HyperWorks® to Optimize Structural Strength for Argon 18 High-performance Bikes

Argon 18 recently partnered with the ÉTS Research Chair on Engineering of Processing, Materials and Structures for Additive Manufacturing to manufacture a new track bike for Lasse Norman Hansen, one of the athletes competing for the Danish team in track cycling at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Their aim was to develop a bike that was stiffer, highly integrated, more aerodynamic, providing greater efficiency. An important aspect of the project was the development of a new aluminum stem to be used by Mr. Hansen in the Flying Lap event which is achieved by the fastest lap from the moving start. Altair solutions included OptiStruct for structural analysis, AcuSolve® for CFD, and Virtual Wind Tunnel.

OptiStruct® Makes Life-form Inspired Table a Reality for IL Hoon Roh

Inspired by zooplankton Radiolaria, artist and architect IL Hoon Roh began creating series of objects known as “Radiolara Experiment” which, through extensive experimentation and collaboration with Altair, ultimately led to the creation of the sophisticated Table Ex-08.

Better Indoor Climate thanks to Simulation and Optimization

Kampmann GmbH is an internationally leading specialist for heating, cooling, air-conditioning and integrated building automation. Within their virtual development process they are using the Altair HyperWorks® software suite, in particular AcuSolve®, the CFD solver; OptiStruct®, the suite's FE-solver and an optimization tool; and HyperMesh® for modeling and meshing tasks. For plant control design, Kampmann is currently considering solidThinking Activate®, a mapping software for control systems. Thanks to simulation, Kampmann engineers are now able to answer questions regarding the internal processes of the system, which are difficult, if not impossible, to study through physical testing.

Smart City - Pozuelo Del Alarcón

The citizens of Pozuelo de Alarcón in Spain wanted a cleaner and more efficient city. The goals were to protect the environment, decrease energy consumption, reduce CO2 emissions, and control expenses. The city council used Carriots platform to realize its digital transformation by: • monitoring city infrastructures • Smart irrigation in 11 parks with humidity sensors • Smart parking in 970 spaces with mobile app • Smart street lights adjusting for weather & traffic

Subros Leverages Altair HyperWorks® to Build Optimized Product Designs While Reducing 60% Simulation Time and 40% Prototyping Costs

Subros is the leading manufacturer of thermal products for automotive applications in India and operates in technical collaboration with Denso. Being a major supplier of AC units to the predominant automotive segments and all classes of vehicles produced by global players in the country, it is very important for Subros to honor deadlines of product delivery with agreed benchmarks of quality. The Subros team has used Altair solutions such HyperMesh for FE modeling, RADIOSS and OptiStruct for structural analysis, AcuSolve for flow analysis, and solidThinking Inspire for Modal Analysis

Topology optimization and new manufacturing methods enable lightweight design in agricultural engineering

Amazone develops and produces innovative agricultural technology, enabling and supporting modern and economical arable farming methods. For the re-design of an originally welded suspension component as a casting part, solidThinking Inspire was used for topology optimization. The benefits included increased durability by a factor of 2.5 and an 8% reduction in weight.

Wilson Golf

Wilson has a strong relationship with Altair, having worked alongside Altair ProductDesign on a number of successful projects in the past and valuing the broad range of simulation and design technologies available in the HyperWorks and solidThinking software suites. Altair’s technical and industrial design teams were selected to assist in the development of the show, working under the direction of Wilson Labs.

Using Altair FEKO to Facilitate Development of the World's Smallest TV Antenna

Dr. Margarita Tecpoyotl-Torres leads a team of students and researchers at The Center for Research in Engineering and Applied Sciences (CIICAp) at UAEM. They use FEKO for simulation technology in the design and development small, low cost, lightweight antennas for TV and automotive applications. Her team demonstrated an outstanding level of innovation in the development of the world’s smallest antenna.

Use Case: KTex Family for Manufacturing

Predicting the impact of the manufacturing process on composite materials.

Mabe

The consumer goods industry is fast paced and highly competitive, with designs becoming increasingly complex while the timeline for production shrinks. Companies like Mabe must innovate and develop new products quickly in order to remain on the consumer radar, and conducting various analysis studies on their designs helps them to do so. This project addresses the tedious and time consuming task of modeling the foam within the product door that helps maintain the internal temperature and also absorbs shock in a drop situation. Modeling the foam effectively is complex and difficult due to the complicated nature of the doors and other cavities, so the step was often skipped, causing inefficiencies with the product.

3D Systems

3D Systems utilized topology optimization, finite element analysis,  and generative design to conceptualize a new material layout for a 3D printed skateboard deck and trucks.

Amcor Rigid Plastics

In today’s remarkably competitive markets, the packaging industry needs to be highly responsive to the rapidly changing industry they operate in. New products are being produced all the time, and packaging professionals must maintain a fine balance between packaging performance, environmental impact and shelf appeal while keeping costs to a minimum. Amcor wanted to explore ways that it could accelerate the engineering and analysis tasks associated with the development of new packaging products. Altair ProductDesign’s Enterprise Solutions Group worked with Amcor’s simulation specialists to identify where time and eventually costs could be saved within the design process. Following an investigation into current design practices, the ESG suggested that Amcor could take advantage of the Impact Simulation Director (ISD).

Cleveland Golf Drives Product Innovation Through Simulation and Optimization Using HyperWorks

Much more goes into a golf club than simply wood, iron and graphite. To shape the performance, the distinctive appearance, the personalized feel and even the sound of the club striking the ball, manufacturers must precisely engineer every aspect of the design. Today, simulation-driven design has dramatically reduced development time for new golf clubs while allowing them to meet strict regulations more efficiently.

HyperWorks Tailors CAE Processes to Reduce Cell Phone Development Time at Motorola

Using HyperWorks, Motorola significantly reduced CAE cycle time by automating the process of input deck generation and results evaluation. By deploying HyperWorks’ process automation engine, analysts created a customized solution to simulate cell phone models more quickly.

Dialing into Simulation to Streamline Cellular Phone Development
